I often find myself having conversations with crew members about travel plans for holidays, work and business trips. Most people have the flights sorted, staff travel sees to that – the hotel becomes the expensive part. As airline crew, we have access to discounted rates at a wide range of hotels, but most people are completely unaware of these hidden discounts and booking codes.

The ACCOR hotel range includes the Mercure, Sofitel, Novotel and Ibis hotel brands to name but a few. In the UK, airline crews can use the code ‘CREW’ to gain access to discounted prices at Ibis Hotels in airport cities. Locations include; Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Birmingham.
Crew member rates start from just £32 room only and will include free Wi-Fi. Ibis Hotels are ideal for crew members on a busy schedule; their team are on duty 24/7 waiting to assist you, the bar is open 24/7 serving drinks and snack meals and breakfast starts from 4am – perfect for an early flight. Crew members can also receive a 10% discount of Food and Drink in most locations.
IHG Hotels – TVL
The IHG hotel range includes; InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express. There are two ways to access the airline crew discount. The easiest way is to enter the special code ‘TVL’ when using IHGs online booking system. The booking system will then show any hotels available with an airline crew discount. Alternatively, visit IHG’s airline rates website, where you can download a rate voucher to take with you when checking in to the hotel.
The discount can only be used for a maximum of 7 nights and bookings can only be made up to 30 days in advance of the stay. Discounts vary depending on the hotel and location, and you can’t claim IHG Priority Club rewards points on the booking.
Hilton Hotels – AL
Hilton Hotels offer up to a 50% discount for people working for travel agencies or airlines. There are two ways of accessing the discount. The easiest way is to enter the code ‘AL’ when using Hilton’s online booking system. You’ll then be shown any hotels meeting your criteria which are eligible for the discount. Alternatively, follow this link to the dedicated bookings page for Hilton’s airline discount.
The terms and conditions
All three hotel chains state that you must display a valid form of airline ID when checking in, otherwise you’ll be subject to the standard nightly rate. I’ve used all the code for all three groups and have never been asked to show my ID, but it’s probably worth taking it just in case.
It’s worth checking each individual hotel’s terms regarding the discounts, as cancellation policies, refund policies and deposits tend to be affected slightly by the discount.
If you’re looking for something a bit different, why not check out the Aviation Insider CrewRentals page. CrewRentals allows airline employees to list and view properties for rent; both for business and leisure purposes. As long as you have a valid airline ID, you’ll have access to properties all over the world, safe in the knowledge that you’re renting from a fellow industry professional.
